ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Jamaican Organization hosted its Mothers Day brunch today to honor mothers in the community.
Mothers from the community made their way in as the doors opened. A full menu was on display with Jamaican staples like rice and peas and jerk chicken.
“We’ve always held our mothers as a cornerstone of our culture, and to be able to celebrate them from year to year has certainly elevated us as an organization, and has kept us anchored in our core principles of serving our community,” said Joel Frater, president of the Rochester Jamaican Organization.
“Mothers are the pillar, and they do make sure that things are kept on course, and the children especially get to do what they’re supposed to do,” said Hope Drummond, a mother.
The president said today was significant because it coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Rochester Jamaican Organization.
