Multiple lanes on a busy thoroughfare were closed after a serious crash in west suburban Lombard on Sunday, authorities said.
At around 6 p.m., officers with the Lombard Police Department were responding to a serious crash along South Highland Avenue near East Butterfield Road.
Police said a detour sending southbound traffic through Yorktown Center, and drivers should expect significant delays.
The roadway was expected to remain closed for several hours, authorities said.
People were urged to avoid the area if possible.
It wasn’t immediately clear if any serious injuries were reported.
