An Uber driver and a teen passenger were shot and killed in an attack in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood Thursday.
On Sunday, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the driver as 38-year-old Jassen Cho, who was shot in the arm during the incident in the 200 block of North Homan on Thursday night.
At approximately 8:27 p.m., Cho was driving 18-year-old Damarion Johnson in the area when a gray SUV pulled up alongside Cho’s vehicle.
One of the occupants of that SUV opened fire, striking both Cho and Johnson before fleeing the scene.
Johnson was shot multiple times, and Cho suffered a gunshot wound to his arm. Both were taken to area hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.
No suspects are in custody in connection with the shooting.
An Uber spokesperson called the incident a tragedy, and pledged the company would do everything it could to aid in the investigation.
“There are no words to describe this tragic loss of life, and our thoughts are with the victims’ loved ones during this difficult time. We’re doing everything we can to support police during their investigation, and we hope those responsible are brought to swift justice,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
Johnson was a basketball player at Christ the King Jesuit College Prep in Chicago, and the school is offering grief counseling to students and faculty after his death.
