Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been winding down its run for a while now, with Paramount+ confirming the show will end after a fifth and final season. But knowing something is ending and actually feeling it are two different things. This week, the cast made it feel very real, and somehow, that seemed to made it more exciting.
At CCXP Mexico City earlier this month, stars Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Celia Rose Gooding, and Paul Wesley sat down with TrekMovie to talk about what's ahead in seasons 4 and 5. Gooding, who plays Uhura, put it plainly. 'I think it has a bit of kind of final boss energy. We're going to the farthest extreme of the strangeness and the newness.' That phrase, 'final boss energy,' is the kind of thing that stops a fan mid-scroll.
'SNW in many ways has been my Trek,' one fan reacted, 'the interview has sure piqued my interest.'
'Not ready to say goodbye to the SNW versions of the TOS characters,' another lamented.
Season 4 premieres July 23 on Paramount+, and Romijn told the outlet she considers it among the best work the show has done. 'I think seasons 4 and 5 are the two best,' she said. 'I think we're all so comfortable in our characters at this point and our relationships with each other.' Paul Wesley, who plays a young James T. Kirk, credited the writing. 'There's something about how the episodes roll into one another in seasons 4 and 5 that is just really compelling.'

Gooding also offered a striking contrast between the two final seasons. Season 4, she said, felt like senior year with high stakes and full intensity. Season 5 was something else entirely. 'If season 4 was senior year, season 5 was like summer camp,' Gooding said. 'All of season 5 felt very celebratory and referential.' Romijn, for her part, said she felt 'very lucky' to have a fifth season at all, and lucky that the show got to wrap up every character's arc properly. 'Obviously we know the next chapter, so it's not the end of the story,' she added. Wesley, meanwhile, kept his cards close but said simply 'I'm excited about the series finale.'
Season 4 consists of 10 episodes rolling out later this year, weekly through September 24. The fifth and final season, just six episodes, is expected in 2027. Both the showrunners and the cast say they had always planned to end the series at this point, using the final episodes to bridge Captain Pike's era to the beginning of Captain Kirk's command as seen in The Original Series. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the premiere date at the same CCXP event.
For a show that has consistently taken creative swings with musical episodes, puppet episodes, and animated crossovers, the idea that the best is still to come is exciting. Trek fans have spent three seasons watching this crew become family. If the cast is this energized about the ending, July 23 can't get here fast enough.
