IPL Points Table 2026: Updated Standings, Orange Cap, Purple Cap After CSK vs LSG Match 53

The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match no.53 was between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the bottom-placed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). This was the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday. CSK pulled the game in the final over when 10 runs were needed and kept their qualification hopes alive for the playoffs winning the game by 5 wickets.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to field first. They made one change with Shivam Dube coming in the playing XI instead of Gurajpneet Singh. LSG made a couple of changes with Josh Inglis and Avesh Khan coming back in for Arshin Kulkarni and Mayank Yadav. The fans came in large numbers to the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

After being asked to bat first, Josh Inglis gave a breezy start to the Super Giants, scoring at over 200 strike rate and bringing up his fifty in just 17 balls. Mitchell Marsh, who was the centurion in the last game, was a spectator at the other end while his countryman was striking all over the park. The latter was backscoring 10 runs.

Inglis kept up the pressure on the CSK bowlers; however, Nicholas Pooran, who showed excellent composure in the last two games, was back for another low score. Soon, Inglis also departed on the score of 85 runs off 35 balls; he missed out on a well-deserved hundred. Rishabh Pant’s struggle continues as he went back scoring 15 runs.

However, after that, the wickets kept on tumbling from 91/1 to 130/5 as they lost four wickets in the span of 40 runs in the middle overs. After that, Himmat Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed stitched a partnership of 50 runs in 32 balls as they ended with the score of 203/8, with the latter scoring 43 off 25 deliveries.

While coming out to chase, CSK were off to a blistering start, with Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad firing from both ends. They scored 45 runs for the first wicket as the former was picked by Digvesh Rathi for the score of 28 runs. Then Urvil Patel went berserk as he smashed 50 runs inside two overs.

Urvil Patel smacked the joint-fastest fifty in the history of the IPL in 13 balls and went back after playing a sensational knock of 65 off 23 deliveries. Soon, the Chennai skipper, Ruturaj, went back scoring 42 runs.

The Dewald Brevis and Kartik Sharma stitched a partnership, as the former was back with the score of 10 runs, and then Kartik followed for 20 runs. The Chennai batters Prashant Veer and Shivam Dube hung on and finished the game with five balls to spare.
