ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The American Heart Association hosted the annual Rochester Heart Ball on Saturday. It was the culmination of the year-round Heart of Rochester campaign, which raised over $300,000 in funds.
Local volunteers and survivors were recognized for their work in public policy change, access to healthcare, and spreading awareness of cardiovascular health.
“We are honored to host an event with such profound meaning for Rochester,” said Ken Burns, Rochester Heart Ball co-chair and vice president of operations, Central New York, at John W. Danforth Company. “The Heart of Rochester campaign is proof of what’s possible when we stand together for a healthier tomorrow.”
The Heart of Rochester campaign specifically aims to improve and save lives from heart disease and stroke.
“We find this event to be so exciting because everyone has a tie to heart disease or stroke. But in a really good way, we’re bringing together stories of survivors tonight so that we all can find hope in our own stories,” said Megan Vargulick, executive director of the American Heart Association.
Vargulick said bringing awareness to cardiovascular health is important so people can make changes to improve it and let their doctor know if anything is wrong.
Over 400 guests gathered to raise funds, and eight local volunteers shared survival stories at the event.
