The Chicago Cubs saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end as they were held to just four hits in a 6-0 loss to the Texas Rangers Saturday.
Edward Cabrera struggled in the game, giving up a pair of home runs and surrendering five earned runs in five innings as the Cubs dropped the second game of their series against the Rangers, with the rubber match set for Sunday.
Jack Leiter struggled with his command as he issued five walks for the Rangers, but the Cubs couldn’t cash in on those struggles, going 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in the contest.
Former Cubs outfielder Joc Pederson had a strong game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Alejandro Osuna drove in a pair of RBI’s for Texas to help the Rangers even up the series.
Josh Jung opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as he hit a home run to the right-center power alley off of Cabrera to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Osuna would later plate another run on an RBI single to left field in the frame, giving the Rangers an advantage they’d never squander.
Pederson laced an RBI double to left field in the fourth inning to expand the lead, and Osuna chased him home to put Texas ahead 4-0 after four innings.
Justin Foscue continued the scoring in the fifth inning as he hit a solo home run off of Cabrera, and from there the Rangers’ bullpen largely cruised, allowing just one hit and zero runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Jameson Taillon will take the hill for the Cubs on Sunday afternoon as the Cubs try to win the series, with Jacob deGrom pitching for the Rangers. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m., and the game will air on Marquee Sports Network.
