2024 Paris Olympian for Ukraine Nika Sharafutdinova has announced she will join Auburn for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. She just spent her freshman year at Ohio State.
Sharafutdinova represented Ukraine at the 2024 Paris Olympics and was 22nd in the long course meters 100 backstroke in a 1:01.47. Her lifetime best in the LCM 100 back is a 1:00.91 that she swam in June 2024 at the European Championships.
She arrived in Columbus this past fall and adjusted to short course yards. She swam to a 53.31 100 back and a 1:56.99 200 back at Ohio State’s midseason meet.
She swam at the 2026 Big Ten Championships as a member of Ohio State’s non scoring roster and posted a lifetime best 1:56.79 200 back and a 55.65 100 fly. She also swam a 53.73 100 back, 0.42 off her time from midseason.

100 back: 53.31 200 back: 1:56.79 100 fly: 55.65The Auburn women finished 7th out of 13 teams at the 2026 SEC Championships with 654.5 points, finishing just behind 6th place South Carolina who had 666.5 points. Zoey Geller led the team in the pool with 52 individual points including a 2:09.23 200 breast to win the ‘B’ final.
Based on her best times, Sharafutdinova would have made the SEC ‘C’ final in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Auburn had one ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ finalist in the 100 back while they had one ‘B’ and two ‘C’ finalists in the 200 back. Rising junior Lora Komoroczy led the team in the 100 back this season with a 51.41 while rising senior Maggie McGuire led the 200 backstrokers with a 1:54.33.
Sharafutdinova will arrive this fall and join the rising sophomore class. She arrives alongside incoming freshman Zetta Bartee from North Carolina.
