While appearing on the May 7 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Sharon Stone, 68, spoke about a past audition for a popular soap opera. When she was a teenager working as a model in the ‘70s, she was asked to audition for the role of Laura on General Hospital.
The character, who was originally played by Stacey Baldwin in 1974, was eventually played by Genie Francis in 1977. This was around the time that Stone auditioned for the part. However, she revealed that General Hospital didn’t seem like they knew what they wanted to do with the character at the time.
“They were like, ‘Are we going to knock her off? We going to replace her?’” Stone said. “And they flew me out here. I'd never been to California. And they flew me out here to audition to play Laura.”

She continued, “The lady called me in to discuss my audition, and she was the very old-school type of casting director who had the gigantic beehive and the cat-eye glasses, which were now down on her nose. And she's sitting at the desk, and she made me stand in front of her while she was on the phone. Then finally she got off the phone, and she looked over her glasses at me and said, ‘We'll be sending you back.'”
Stone went on to explain that she had done a lot of commercials back then, but nothing else. She also revealed the strange note that the casting director gave her about her performance. “She went, ‘You have no mystery,' And I was like, ‘Huh?' And I just didn't know what to do with that.”
She continued, “I went home to my roommate, and she was like, ‘What happened?' And I told her, and she went, ‘Baby, you're Technicolor in a black and white world.'”
Kimmel assured Stone that she had “a lot of mystery” and Stone agreed. “I made a career on mystery,” she said.
Stone went on to win a Primetime Emmy Award for The Practice and a Golden Globe Award for Casino. Recently, she’s appeared in hits like Euphoria, Nobody 2, and The Flight Attendant.
