Kevin D. Motykie, of Schaumburg, was charged with first degree murder in the death of Katherine D. Torbick, 43, according to Wednesday press release from Schaumburg Police. According to the release, Motykie was expected to make his first court appearance Friday.

    About 9:20 p.m. on April 30, Schaumburg police responded to a well-being check at 1727 W. Weathersfield Way, with the caller expressing concern about Torbick, whom she had not heard from throughout the day.

    Schaumburg police said in the release they were aware of a recent domestic violence incident at the location involving the two, with a pending arrest warrant for Motykie for aggravated domestic battery to Torbick.

    Officers responded to the scene and forced their way inside. Once they entered, they found Torbick deceased. A day later, Torbick’s death was ruled a homicide, with the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office saying she died from strangulation.

    Officers found Motykie in the garage of the home, officials said, and he was immediately taken into custody. According to officials, Motykie had a pending arrest warrant for aggravated domestic battery Torbick.

    An investigation revealed the Torbick and Motykie had been living in the home, and that they had a dating relationship.

    A Facebook post from Torbick’s employer, Fox River MedSpa, said they were “heartbroken” by her loss.

    “In the short time she was with us, she became a part of our Sisterhood,” the post said. “She brought warmth, energy, and genuine care to our workplace. She loved being part of this team, and we loved having her here. She made an impact that will not be forgotten – with both clients and teammates.”
