Yuzvendra Chahal vaping row: List of legal actions, airline penalties and BCCI punishment he could face

Yuzvendra Chahal is alleged to have been vaping inside a plane while the Punjab Kings were traveling on a flight. Arshdeep Singh, who often uploads funny videos online, captured the moment when Chahal allegedly vaping.

A few days ago, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Praga was involved in a similar controversy as he was caught vaping inside the dressing room during a live match.

E-cigarettes are strictly banned in India. Selling, using, or promoting all activities related to e-cigarettes are considered illegal activities in India. According to the video clip of Yuzvendra Chahal, it seems he was vaping on a plane.

If it is proved that Chahal was vaping inside the airplane, then it can cause major trouble for him. Now, he can easily attract BCCI actions, legal issues, or even penalties sanctioned by the airline.

According to a Times of India report, the Punjab Kings were travelling to Hyderabad for their IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 6. During the journey, Arshdeep Singh uploaded a video featuring several PBKS players.

In the video, viewers can clearly see that Chahal was seated by the window alongside his PBKS teammate Shashank Singh. When the camera was pointed at Chahal, he caught something and released it after that.

Because of this act, the PBKS star may have to face a series of consequences, as the rules are pretty strict against e-cigarettes. Under the Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), imprisonment and penalty are both possible. For a first-time offence involving the production, transport, or distribution, the penalty is up to one year in jail or a penalty of INR 1 lakh, or both.

Aviation rules are strict against such acts

Aviation rules, which everyone should obey during a flight, are also against e-cigarettes. Vaping on a flight violates the Aircraft Rules, 1937, and recent DGCA safety circulars. It is clearly mentioned in the rule that there is a total ban on carrying e-cigarettes in either cabin baggage or checked luggage.

If someone is marked as an "Unruly Passenger", which means if someone is caught vaping inside an airplane, a passenger can be banned from flying for a period ranging from 3 months to a lifetime, depending on the level of the offence.

In the Indian Premier League, which runs under the observation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it also does not support such actions by any means. Under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct, a player who is alleged to have used prohibited substances like e-cigarettes may be fined 25% of their match fee and handed one demerit point.

PBKS individually can take actions against Yuzvendra Chahal

Additionally, Punjab Kings can impose their own internal fines or suspensions for violating team protocols and damaging the brand's image publicly.

These are some of the possibilities Yuzvendra Chahal may have to face in the near future. But there is nothing official yet. None of the governing bodies has issued any statement regarding the incident so far.
