Bulgarian swimmers Deyvid Naydenov and Alex Naydenov will be turning their collegiate careers into a family affair, as they have both announced their commitment to compete for Harvard University beginning in the fall of 2026.
The duo currently trains with Aquazard in Pleven, Bulgaria, where both excel at the mid-distance and distance freestyle events.

“I am honored to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic journey at Harvard University! None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me along the way. A huge thank you to Coach Tyrrell and Coach Dozier for the opportunity to chase excellence at Harvard. Go Crimson!”
Naydenov logged several top performances last summer. At the 2025 Bulgarian Championships (LCM) in July, he posted a lifetime best time in the 100 free (51.87) en route to placing 9th overall in the event. He also took the runner-up spot in the 200 free (1:51.91), 400 free (3:58.97) and 800 free (8:28.13 – SB).
At the 2025 World Aquatics Junior Championships (LCM) a few weeks later, Naydenov threw down a personal best time of 1:50.90 in the 200 free as the leadoff on the 800 free relay. He also finished 24th in the 400 free (3:57.70) and 26th in the 200 free (1:51.45).

Naydenov posted the majority of his top times during the 2024-2025 season. At the 2025 Bulgarian Open Team Championships (LCM), he won the 400 free (3:56.15) and placed 2nd in the 200 free (1:51.57) and 5th in the 100 free (52.03), logging personal best times in each event.

Most recently, Naydenov raced at the 2025 Bulgarian Swimming Championships (SCM) in November, where he turned in a series of season-best performances. He placed 4th in the 400 free (3:53.26 – SB), 6th in the 200 free (1:49.08 – SB) and 14th in the 100 free (51.30). The Crimson sent two athletes, freshman William Mulgrew and sophomore Adriano Arioti, on to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championships, where they finished 39th overall.
Based on the results from the 2026 Ivy League Championships, both Alex and Deyvid Naydenov would have landed in the ‘C’ final in the 200 free and 500 free based on their projected converted times, giving them a chance to score some points right from the start.
Harvard has upped the ante on international recruiting over the last few years. With six international swimmers currently on the roster and two more joining the incoming class of recruits alongside the Naydenov brothers, the total number is set to jump to 10 next season.
The full list of recruits joining the Naydenov brothers in Harvard’s class of 2030 will be Adam Bradley (Ireland), Owen Lin (North Carolina), Botond Kovacs (Hungary) and George Dovellos (Florida).
