WASHINGTON — The “No Taxpayer-Funded Pensions for Sex Criminals Act” has been reintroduced through bipartisan legislation recently.
Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Joni Ernst reintroduced the act, aiming to stop convicted sex criminals from collecting federal pensions.
According to lawmakers, the law currently says federal employees who’ve been convicted of sex crimes, including against children, remain eligible to get their pensions even from the jail cell.
“It’s outrageous that federal employees convicted of sex crimes are eligible to collect their taxpayer-funded pension,” said Gillibrand. “The bipartisan No Taxpayer-Funded Pensions for Sex Criminals Act ensures that no hard-earned taxpayer dollars are spent supporting criminal sex offenders. I’m proud to support this commonsense bill that will provide much-needed accountability.”
Gillibrand and Ernst previously worked on the “Military Justice Improvement and Increasing Prevention Act.” That act aimed to have a more professional and transparent military justice system for crimes such as rape and sexual assault.
