Brown also shared that he enjoyed traveling while working as a musician. He explained that not only did he perform his songs throughout the country, but he also did speaking engagements to encourage youths to stay in school.

In the 1968 interview, Brown said he wasn't "very good at writing music" for his songs. He explained that during each recording, he would "put [down] a few notes" and tell the members of his band what he wanted the track to sound like.
