A jet from the San Diego-based USS Abraham Lincoln fired on an Iranian tanker Wednesday that was attempting to evade the U.S. blockade.

Central Command said a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fired several rounds from its 20mm cannon to disable the rudder of the M/T Hasna.

The 300-foot-long tanker was in the Gulf of Oman, heading to an Iranian port, and ignored warnings.

“After Hasna’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings, U.S. forces disabled the tanker’s rudder by firing several rounds,” Centcom said in a statement. “Hasna is no longer transiting to Iran.”

The military action took place at approximately 6 a.m. Pacific time.

The U.S. blockade against ships attempting to enter or depart Iranian ports remains in full effect amid new efforts to negotiate a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
