Ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, Pakistan is likely to play against Sri Lanka and England in a tri-match ODI series as part of their preparations for the ICC's flagship tournament. It is reported that cricket boards of all three formats are in discussion to fix the dates and venues for the three-team tournament.
As of now, it is confirmed that Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England will play in an ODI tri-nation series, but when and where is yet to be confirmed officially. If the media reports are to be believed, then the competition can be arranged in October-November this year.

The ODI World Cup will be held in October-November 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Among these three teams, Pakistan and England played promisingly in the format. England last featured in the ODI series against New Zealand, where they had to accept a 0-3 defeat.
Against Sri Lanka, the Three Lions claimed the ODI series by 2-1. Pakistan claimed a massive ODI series win against the powerful South Africa cricket team. Against South Africa, they clinched the bilateral series by 2-1 and demolished Sri Lanka by 3-0 in the 2025-26 session.
But, against Bangladesh, the Men in Green suffered an unexpected series defeat in an away assignment, days after the T20 World Cup 2026 final. Sri Lanka haven’t been in good form in ODIs as they were whitewashed by Pakistan and went down 1-2 against England.
The tri-series ODI series is likely to be arranged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) within a very limited number of grounds.
"The PCB is likely to hold matches at just two venues, Lahore and Karachi, but dates and venues would be finalised soon," a source close to the development informed The Pioneer.
In addition to the ODI competition, the Sri Lanka team is likely to play a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series during the tour before the tri-nation tournament. According to media reports, they will play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and a two-match Test series, which will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27.
Earlier in 2025, Pakistan played a tri-series on home soil with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe as the other participants. On their home ground, Pakistan claimed the series, beating Sri Lanka in the final in Rawalpindi on November 29.
