"Her mom heard the song and offered us a contract," said Lee.
Lee also said that she and the other members of the Shirelles didn't expect to find such success.
"We were young school girls until we became 21, and we were having fun. We love what we did. We were troopers. We were adventurous. We love to travel, and it was just a blast for us. But we never thought that it would come to this point," said Lee in the interview.
