Bharat Arun backs Rishabh Pant despite poor form in IPL 2026

LSG bowling coach Bharat Arun has claimed that Rishabh Pant has never been intimidated by the massive price tag of INR 27 crores, and it is just a matter of an inning or so for the legendary southpaw to bounce back with the bat.

Rishabh Pant, the legendary Indian left-handed batter, was once known as one of India's finest three-format cricketers. However, as the years have passed by, he has struggled to keep up with his form, especially in white-ball cricket, and has hence lost his place in the Indian limited-overs sides.

After his horrific accident in 2022, Pant returned to the game, ending an absence of over a year. On return, his form has dipped severely, especially in white-ball formats and the IPL as well. Pant has struggled to impress with the bat as well as with his captaincy, having failed his new franchise, LSG, over the past two seasons.

India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and Rishabh Pant was a crucial part of the tournament; however, his contributions with the bat were limited. However, Pant showed glimpses of promising touch in red-ball cricket, a format he has dominated to the core.

The LSG team owner was happy and excited after having acquired Rishabh Pant even for a whopping tag of INR 27 crores, as the former DC captain became the costliest cricketer ever in the history of the IPL.

The wicket-keeper has failed to meet the expectations of his hefty price tag, and many have reasoned that the price tag has rather acted as shackles for the southpaw. However, Bharar Arun, the LSG bowling coach, has finally backed him despite his lack of form.

"I don't think Rishabh Pant has been bogged down by the price tag (Rs 27 cr) in the last 2 years. He took us over the line in the second match. It's a question of one inning," said the LSG bowling coach Bharat Arun.

Rishabh Pant has been deprived of runs since his arrival at LSG

The 29-year-old veteran wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who was once named as one of the most skillful and well-compiled cricketers in the shortest format of the game, has severely lacked form in the last two seasons for the IPL.

Pant has amassed the least number of runs in the last two seasons in the IPL throughout his own IPL career. He finished with just 269 runs in 2025 with a century in the last game and has amassed 189 runs after eight matches this season.

Another major concern for Rishabh has been his strike rate, which has seen a whopping low, as it has dropped from a range of 150-160 to near about 125-130 in recent seasons after his move to the Super Giants.

After horrible home patch, LSG turn to Wankhede looking for their third win of the season

The biggest negative for the Lucknow Super Giants has been their horrible form at home. The team seriously struggled to impress at their home, winning the majority of the matches, including the last game against KKR, where they could not chase a 150+ score despite that strong batting order.

Ending their home matches streak, they will advance to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for their upcoming match against the Mumbai Indians, who are placed ninth in the points table with the highest number of losses so far in this season. The Sanjeev Goenka-owned side now stands last on the points table with four points in eight matches and an awful net run rate.
