ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Lilac Festival is one week away, marking 128 years of the iconic springtime event.
Food stands are already going up at Highland Park as the lilacs begin to bloom. With some low temperatures in the forecast, News10NBC asked the head of horticulture for Monroe County Parks if the lilacs will be in good shape.
“Right now they’re looking really good. Some of the syringa hyacinthiflora, which are the early blooming lilacs, have already popped. But with these 40/40 degree temperatures we’ve been having should preserve the blooms for the duration of the festival,” Horticulturist Brad Hutton said.
Festival organizers say you can expect some new things this year and the largest number of vendors in the festival’s history.
