The NFL Draft is fully behind us. So while the Chicago Bears won’t kick off rookie minicamp activities until next week, that just means we’ve got time to check out what is happening around the league.
Check out this Browns stadium video
While the Bears crawl to the finish line of their stadium saga, the Cleveland Browns are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony and sharing cool videos of their upcoming stadium project scheduled for completion in 2029.
Check out Huntington Bank Stadium in all of its virtual glory:
On the one hand, I enjoy watching videos like the ones above. It gives me, as a Bears fan, something to look forward to whenever this team gets its act together and puts shovels in the ground on an actual stadium project. But on the other hand, it is frustrating knowing that the Browns — a franchise not known for having it together in any capacity — can push through a stadium plan seemingly with ease. I’m not privy to the details of the deal or if it is good for taxpayers. But there is no denying that the stadium looks cool. I hope it lives up to the expectations of fans out in Ohio.
THE LATEST CHICAGO BEARS STADIUM SAGA UPDATE
Unless the NFL changes its schedule rotation, I believe things will line up for the Bears to be on the list of home opponents for the Browns in 2029. Maybe Chicago’s football fans can take a road trip to Ohio for that one.
Is Russell Wilson headed to an NFL broadcast booth?
Even though Russell Wilson was scheduled to visit with the New York Jets and discuss where he could fit on their roster, it seems more likely that the Super Bowl-winning quarterback is headed to the broadcast booth than he is to the playing field.
More from The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, who has the latest on Wilson’s potential move to broadcast television:
Russell Wilson is in deep discussions to go into television, which could mark the end of what is likely a Hall of Fame career as an NFL quarterback, sources briefed on the talks told The Athletic.
“The NFL Today,” CBS’ Sunday pregame show, is considered the favorite as the two sides have had lengthy talks, the sources said. Wilson, 37, recently had a visit with the New York Jets about the possibility of backing up Geno Smith.
Wilson has worked with CBS on a few occasions over the years, including during a Giants bye-week last season.
Russell Wilson has nothing left to prove in the NFL. He is a Super Bowl champion with All-Pro and Pro Bowl accolades. There would be no shame in calling it a career right now. If Wilson lands at CBS, he will likely fill the role vacated by Matt Ryan’s departure to become the Atlanta Falcons’ president of football.

Some notable players in the news in conjunction with fifth-year option decisions for 2023 NFL Draft picks. Lukas Van Ness is getting his fifth-year option picked up by the Green Bay Packers. Picked 13th overall in 2023, Van Ness has 8.5 sacks, 17 tackles-for-loss, and seven quarterback hits in 43 games since his arrival in Green Bay. On the other side of the coin, Broderick Jones — the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 14th overall selection in the same draft class — isn’t getting his fifth-year option picked up. I can see Jones, who is set to be a free agent after this year, being someone teams take a flier on as a possible post-hype sleeper. Reporting from Cleveland’s Mary Kay Cabot has Deshaun Watson with the inside track on Shedeur Sanders as the two battle to be the Browns’ starting quarterback in 2026. There is a lot of time between now and when the Cleveland staff will make a decision on that front, but it will be fun to follow from afar. Unfortunately, Shedeur’s brother, Shilo, had some pretty gross and mysoginistic commentary directed at Cabot for her reporting. Matt Marton-Imagn Images ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime reports Azeez Al-Shaair and the Houston Texans are in agreement on a three-year extension worth up to $54 million. Al-Shaair is just the latest Texans standout to get a new deal this offseason. The Pro Bowl linebacker joins edge defender Will Anderson Jr., All-Pro Danielle Hunter, tight end Dalton Schultz, and kicker Kai’imi Fairbairn as Houston football players to get extensions. Even though Al-Shaair is a quality ballplayer, his history with dirty hits is unsettling. Tyler Sullivan (CBS Sports) lists the Minnesota Vikings among a group of five teams that could make a suprise push for a Super Bowl as a long-shot. The odds Sullivan uses has the Bears’ NFC North rival at 55/1 to win the NFL’s biggest prize. If Minnesota can get quarterback Kyler Murray back on track, the Vikings could be a true nuisance in the division. Bloomberg has news that Mark Zuckerberg (yeah, that one) is *NOT* interested in making a bid for the Seattle Seahawks. An earlier report from Front Office Sports listed Zuckerberg and Apple CEO Tim Cook as being interested in making a bid. However, both parties have now denied the report.
