Clean Sweep at ESL Ballpark (Saturday)
The 20th annual Clean Sweep is taking place on Saturday. Volunteers will gather at the ESL Ballpark, then head to different neighborhoods in Rochester to clean them up for the springtime.
People will gather at 8 a.m. After volunteering, participants will head back to the ballpark for a complimentary Rochester Red Wings game and lunch. Walk-in volunteers are welcome, but you’re encouraged to register here. You can also register by calling 311 or (585) 428-5990.
The city says volunteers can park for free during Clean Sweep in the Oak Street lot. Transportation is provided from ESL Ballpark to the project sites.
You’re encouraged to bring any tool you have. But, work gloves, tools, and bags are provided at each job site. There will also be coffee, juice, and muffins available at the ballpark. Appropriate clothing includes hard-soled shoes and long pants. You can read more about the Clean Sweep here.
Dog adoption event at Rochester Animal Services (Saturday)
Rochester Animal Services on Verona Street is holding a dog adoption event on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Approved adopters can get a dog for free.
Currently, 15 dogs are available for adoption at Rochester Animal Services. The dogs will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped as part of the adoption process. Dogs who’ve already been spayed or neutered can go to their new homes the same day.
This is a part of the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” program. It works with organizations from across the U.S. to reduce adoption fees and to make pet adoption more accessible. Click here to see the available dogs.
Bike donation event in Pittsford (Saturday)
Looking to get rid of a bike? The Pittsford Rotary Club will be hosting its annual Bike Drop on Saturday at Pittsford Mendon High School.
People can bring any old or unused bikes in any condition. The club says the bikes will be donated to R Community Bikes, which repairs and gives out bikes free of charge to Rochester’s children and adults in need.
At the same time, people can also donate to the monthly Drive-Thru Food Drive at the same location. The club is hosting the food drive at Mendon High School for May only, and will return to Sutherland High School in June.
Rotarians and students from the Interact Club will be collecting the donated bikes for R Community Bikes, and food items for the Pittsford Food Cupboard. The bike drop and food drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. To learn more, click here.
Kite Flite at Ontario Beach Park (Sunday)
Ontario Beach Park is hosting its Kite Flite on Sunday, bringing expert and amateur kite flyers together. The Great Lakes Kitefliers Society will be there to show off some of their designs and tricks.
In addition, City Recreation staff will have free kite-building workshops for children 12 and under. Performers from Roc City Circus will also be there, showing off their acrobatics. The Kite Flite runs from noon to 4 p.m. You can learn more here.
International Plaza celebration (Sunday)
The International Plaza on North Clinton Avenue is kicking off its season of free community events. It starts with an opening ceremony on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. with ethnic food, vendors, and music. DJ Gaby and Las Batuteras Latinas de Rochester will perform.
