Head coach Marcus Freeman scored a massive win on the recruiting trail on Friday when Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep edge rusher Aidan O’Neil announced his college commitment.
The blue-chip pass-rusher has given his verbal pledge to Notre Dame. He announced his choice live on the CBS Sports YouTube page. One of the top prospects from the Garden State, O’Neil was also considering Penn State and Kentucky.
“Coach Freeman, I haven’t played for him, I’ve never practiced for him, I’ve had maybe a handful of conversations with him, and I’m already ready to go to war for him,” O’Neil said of his commitment. “He’s a guy I really want to play for. … I think they’ll help me reach my full potential.”
In addition to a mid-June trip to South Bend, O’Neil had previously scheduled official visits to Kentucky and Penn State. According to Irish Illustrated’s Brian Dohn, O’Neil will not take those visits to Kentucky or Penn State now that he has given his verbal commitment.
In the 247 Composite, O’Neil ranks as the No. 140 overall recruit in the class and the No. 15 edge. He’s a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defender who was an All-State selection during the Fall 2025 season.
O’Neil posted 54 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles as a junior.
His commitment gives the Irish 11 known pledges now for the 2027 cycle. According to 247Sports, Notre Dame’s class ranks eighth in the country.
