The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated catcher Gabriel Moreno and recalled lefty reliever Brandyn Garcia on Friday morning ahead of an early matchup against the Chicago Cubs.
The team optioned left-handed reliever Philip Abner and designated catcher Aramis Garcia for assignment.
Moreno was on the 10-day injured list has not played since April 10 due to an oblique injury.
The catcher has a .275 batting average and .733 OPS in 13 games.
Brandyn Garcia was acquired last season in a trade that sent first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners and posted a 5.84 ERA and 1.54 WHIP with 13 strikeouts, five walks and 10 runs allowed (eight earned) over 12.1 innings (12 appearances).

In Triple-A Reno this year, Garcia pitched 12.1 innings over 10 games and holds a 2.19 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. He has struck out 18 while allowing 11 hits, three earned runs with 10 walks.
Abner was called up Wednesday and was the first D-back southpaw reliever to take the mound this season. He appeared once, eating 2.1 innings Thursday during Arizona’s 13-1 loss to Milwaukee and allowing two earned runs.
