ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’re leaving April behind and welcoming in May with the same overall pattern: a bit cool and a little showery. Starting off with the cool air: Frost Advisories are posted across the Rochester and Finger Lakes regions, as temperatures early Friday morning drop into the mid 30s. Frost Advisories will likely be extended into the weekend, as temperatures are expected to drop through the 30s both early Saturday and Sunday morning, as well. So, if itching to get those new plants in the ground, maybe hold off a few more weeks, especially for the temperatures-sensitive plants.
We’ll see some sun to start Friday, but our next round of showers will develop by early afternoon, and last a few hours into the early evening hours. With the rain around, high temperatures on Friday will likely hold in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.
The weekend looks decent, with a fair amount of sunshine, some afternoon clouds popping up, and just the slight chance of a passing shower on Saturday. Sunday will feature a mostly sunny sky. Both days will remain cool, with highs in the lower 50s.
Our overall pattern features a trough over the Great Lakes and Northeast, which will keep us cool and a little unsettled through the first week or two of May. This means our high temperatures will remain a good 10-15 degrees cooler than the average high, which would normally be the mid 60s. We will get a few milder days early next week, before our next punch of cooler air arrives by mid to late next week.
