Police: Suspect shoots at vehicle on Dewey Avenue, causing a crash

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Around 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Rochester police responded to the area of 510 Dewey Ave. after getting reports of gunshots. When police arrived, they said they found a two-vehicle accident, with one vehicle having three bullet holes.

Two occupants were in a parked vehicle on Dewey Avenue when investigators say the suspect walked out from behind a building and started shooting at them.

Investigators say a 30-year-old Rochester man and a 20-year-old man were being shot at, with one of them attempting to drive away.

While attempting to drive away, the driver drove south on Dewey Avenue, crashing into another vehicle that was going north on Dewey Avenue, police say.

Police added that the suspect shot at the vehicle three times, leaving bullet holes, while running away before the crash.

The two victims were uninjured from the shooting and crash; however, the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation, police reported.

Police say the suspect isn’t in custody, and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
