2026 TXLA 11&Over Long Course Kick Off
April 24-26, 2026 Austin, Texas LCM (50 meters) ResultsThe vast majority of the Texas men’s NCAA Championship-winning roster was in action last weekend at the Longhorn Aquatics Long Course Kick Off meet in Austin, getting their long course campaign underway coming off the conclusion of the college season at the end of March.
Of the 15 swimmers who represented the Longhorns at NCAAs, 13 of them were competing, with only Hubert Kos and Aiden Hammer missing—Hammer was competing at the World Aquatics Open Water World Cup in Ibiza.
Rex Maurer, who won the NCAA title and broke the American Record last month in the 400 IM, won a competitive race in the 200 free, clocking 1:48.47 to edge out Baylor Nelson (1:49.14), Rafael Fente Damers (1:49.39) and Jacob Wimberly (1:49.56).
Among those four, Wimberly was closest to his best time, with his PB standing at 1:48.71 from the U.S. Open this past December.
In the 200 IM, Nelson clocked 2:01.02 to claim victory over Maurer (2:01.26), with both of their best times sitting in the 1:58 range. Cooper Lucas rounded out the top three in 2:02.83, less than two seconds off his personal best of 2:01.15 set back in 2024.
Lucas also topped the 200 fly in 1:58.58 after setting a best time of 1:57.53 at the U.S. Open in December.
Nate Germonprez, the fastest man in the NCAA last season in the 100 breast, won that event in a time of 1:00.92, followed by teammates Campbell McKean (1:01.73) and Will Scholtz (1:02.39). Germonprez set a best time of 59.80 at the 2025 U.S. Open, while McKean’s PB stands at 58.96, the mark he set to break the U.S. 17-18 NAG record and qualify for the World Championship team last summer. Scholtz’s best of 1:01.85 was set in July 2023.
All three swimmers also raced the 200 IM, with McKean clocking 2:05.13, Germonprez going 2:05.48, and Scholtz touching in 2:05.89.
Will Modglin, who was 4th in the 100 breast in 1:03.98, just over six-tenths off his best time set in 2022 (1:03.37), had a strong showing in the 100 back, putting up a time of 54.50. That’s right around where he was in May 2025 (54.18), which led into his breakout performance at the World University Games last July, where he won gold in a big best time of 52.54, earning him a spot on the U.S. Pan Pac roster this summer.
Kyle Peck was the only other entrant in the 100 back among senior swimmers, clocking 56.83 to improve on his season-best set at the U.S. Open (57.08). He owns a best time of 55.48, set in 2024.
Fente-Damers also had a noteworthy swim in the 50 free, blasting to a time of 22.51, the fourth-fastest swim of his career. The Frenchman owns a lifetime best of 21.98, set last June.
On the women’s side, there were only two 19 & over swimmers in action: Joanna Evans and Inez Miller.
Evans, a Bahamian Olympian and former Longhorn, served a two-year suspension after testing positive for Clostebol from 2022 until 2024, and was competing for just the second time since the suspension concluded. The 28-year-old posted times of 2:00.95 in the 200 free and 4:19.48 in the 400 free, just shy of what she clocked at a meet in the Bahamas last month (2:00.49/4:19.28), which was her first meet since December 2021.
Miller, an Australian native who is coming off her freshman year at Texas, went 2:01.30 in the 200 free and 4:20.19 in the 400 free. She owns respective best times of 1:57.32 and 4:14.97, the 200 mark being set at the 2025 Australian Trials and the 400 PB stemming from the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.
Miller qualified for NCAAs after setting a personal best of 1:44.00 in the SCY 200 free at the SMU Last Chance Meet in late February, and went on to place 28th in the 200 free (1:44.42) and 38th in the 500 free (4:44.37) at her debut NCAAs.
