ALBION, N.Y. — The Orleans County Legislature passed two local laws affecting short-term rentals.
Lawmakers voted to opt out of a state-required registration system for short-term rental units. The legislature can choose to opt in later by repealing the law.
A separate law was also approved to expand the county’s hotel and motel occupancy tax to include short-term rentals.
Elsewhere, Ontario County also is considering a local law to opt out of a registry for short-term rentals. No members of the public spoke at a hearing on the law earlier this month, and it is likely to be voted on at the Ontario County Board of Supervisors’ next meeting in May.
