LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson met with reporters on Monday evening ahead of the Tigers’ midweek game against Southeastern Louisiana.
The health of ace pitcher Casan Evans has been of high intrigue in recent days. Evans was scratched from his weekend start against Mississippi State due to “arm discomfort.”
Johnson shared good news regarding Evans’ prognosis and didn’t rule out a return to the mound this weekend.
“We’ve got a good plan on getting him back on track,” Johnson told reporters. “I would not rule out him pitching this weekend … we’re going to be diligent about how we do this.
“I’m feeling very optimistic”

It’s been an up-and-down season for Evans, who has a 5.46 ERA but is an excellent strikeout arm with 76 punch-outs in just 52.2 innings pitched so far this year. Evans has served as LSU’s Friday night starter when healthy this season.
After facing Southeastern Louisiana in the midweek, the Tigers will battle South Carolina in a crucial SEC weekend series. They also have series remaining against Georgia and Florida before the SEC Tournament.
