Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath has slammed Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for his disgusting performance in this edition of the IPL. He has also been cornered on many occasions for his clueless captaincy.
The Chennai Super Kings' dismal form in the IPL continued despite the management revamping the entire squad. They were back in winning ways, but have again lost form with recent defeats. They are currently seventh on the points table after having won just three matches this season.
One of the major concerns for them has been Ruturaj Gaikwad, the skipper and one of their most experienced players, not hitting good form. The bowlers also made a poor start but have slowly gained promising form in the later matches; however, Gaikwad's chances of a return seem very slim.
Former Indian cricketer and CSK star Subramaniam Badrinath slammed CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for his poor form, and his woeful batting has been a major concern. The right-hander reached his first half-century in the last game, yet his innings came to no use to the team.
Gaikwad amassed 74 runs and batted till the last ball, but the concerns were that he had faced 60 balls on his own. Badrinath highlighted that he scored those runs at such a slow rate, while others have scored 50's and 100's off just 15 to 30 balls.
"Ruturaj has done nothing impactful at all this season. He hasn't given even one match-winning performance. How long can the wait be for him to rediscover form? It's been eight matches, and the season is almost finished," said Badrinath on Gaikwad's batting display.
"Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in poor form. Even this innings was laboured. Guys elsewhere are scoring 50's and 100s of 15 and 30 balls. But Ruturaj is batting with no intent," he added.
EX-CSK star claims unsuccessful opening partnership has been the biggest woe for CSK
The Ex-CSK star Subramaniam Badrinath believes that Ruturaj Gaikwad's poor form has hurt CSK's opening partnership, which has been one of the key attributes to their success in the past seasons. Though during those times, they have had a different combination of players at the top.
"It's important to see how openers perform as a pair and not just individuals. 30 has been the highest opening partnership for CSK this season. The wicket can't be blamed when the opposition won in 16 overs on the same wicket.
"The opening partnership has been a big letdown, and Ruturaj's form has to be seriously questioned. Samson has still done his bit with two centuries," said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).
Ruturaj Gaikwad's poor performance in IPL 2026
The CSK veteran opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has struggled for form in this edition of the IPL. Having played all matches this season and having led alone without the shadow of MS Dhoni guiding him.
In the first seven matches, he has amassed 6, 28, 7, 15, 7, 19, and 22 runs against oppositions like the Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai Indians.
Even after his unbeaten 74 in the last match against the Gujarat Titans, Gaikwad has averaged just 26 in this season, while also having struck at a strike rate of 121 in this season.
