ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Runners laced up their shoes for the Rochester Regional Health Flower City Challenge on Sunday morning.
The race began at 7:30 a.m. with runners sprinting from the starting line. The event featured a 13.1-mile half marathon, a 3.1-mile 5K and a kids half-mile race.
The half marathon started and finished on Cortland Street at Parcel 5. The event has been going on since 2010.
Runners posed with medals after finishing the race.
“Everything is about the people, it’s about the runners and the walkers that are out there. Trying to do something perhaps that they’ve never accomplished before. Or maybe they do it better than they’ve ever have done it before. So, it’s just the athletes, really,” said Ellen Brenner-Boutillier, owner of Fleet Feet.
More than 2,500 runners participated in the Flower City Challenge. The number of runners has continued to grow over the last couple of years.
