The Chicago police officer who was shot and killed at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital Saturday has been identified.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, 38-year-old John Bartholomew was shot and killed at the hospital just before 11 a.m. Saturday in the city’s Ravenswood neighborhood.
Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said two officers were transporting an individual to the hospital just before 11 a.m. Saturday when they were shot.
A second officer, a 57-year-old who has been on the force for 21 years, was also shot and remains hospitalized. That officer was listed in critical condition Saturday, police said.
A manhunt for thesuspect ensued, with officers swarming the hospital and the nearby community. The suspect was eventually taken into custody, authorities said.
Bartholomew is a 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, according to Snelling, but no other information was immediately made available amid the continuing investigation.
