Father of man who killed two officers in Syracuse pleads guilty to weapons charges

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The father of the Syracuse man who shot and killed two law enforcement officers in 2024 has pleaded guilty to weapons charges.

Joseph Murphy pleaded guilty yesterday to criminal possession of a weapon. He faces four months of weekend stays in jail when he’s sentenced in July.

According to Syracuse.com, one of the guns found in the Murphy home during the investigation into the deadly shootings had illegal features, including a flash suppressor and collapsible stock. That gun was not the one used in the shootings.

In April 2024, Murphy’s son, Christopher Murphy, shot and killed Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Hoosock. Another officer then shot and killed Christopher Murphy.
