Hit Prime Video Series Featuring Iconic Detective Becomes Must-Watch TV Event

Have you been watching Young Sherlock? The new Prime Video series from Guy Ritchie is the latest zeitgeist hit, lighting up group chats, climbing streaming charts all over the globe, and quietly becoming this year’s most talked-about series.

Ritchie, long associated with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic fictional detective through his films starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, is now revisiting the character with a new twist: an eight-part miniseries centered on a teenage Sherlock.

Based on the Andrew Lane book series, the origin story explores how the legend begins, following a 19-year-old Sherlock at Oxford University in the late 19th century, before he becomes the world-famous detective we all know and love.

Harry Potter fans will recognize Hero Fiennes Tiffin — who plays Tom Riddle in The Half-Blood Prince — as the young Sherlock. He’s joined by Dónal Finn (The Witcher), Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show). And, yes, the Fiennes actors are related: Hero is Joseph’s nephew, the son of Martha Fiennes, Joseph’s sister.

Young Sherlock dropped in its entirety on the platform on March 4 and has been racking up acclaim online ever since. While its score on Rotten Tomatoes climbs, outlets are already calling it the "mystery show event of 2026," "must-watch TV," and a "global streaming smash."

Don’t worry about getting hooked; Season 2 is on the way. Renewed April 14 thanks to massive viewership, per The Hollywood Reporter, the series will see Ritchie return to direct the premiere episode.

“Young Sherlock has that rare magic — millions of fans around the world aren’t just watching a detective story, they’re falling in love with the origin of an icon,” Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, said. “Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in season two.”
