Denver Broncos will be on the clock today for the NFL Draft ...Middle East

The Denver Broncos will be on the clock today with the 62nd overall pick as the second and third rounds take place in the NFL Draft. Denver only has a second-round pick tonight, but there’s always the possibility they move up closer in the second round or trade back and acquire third-round capital.

Denver Broncos will be on the clock today as Day 2 of NFL Draft continues

If we learned anything from the first round of this year’s NFL Draft, it’s that yours, mine, and our mock drafts don’t matter. They’re content fodder, but they’re largely disconnected from the reality of how things truly are going to go.

Thursday’s first round was one of the least exciting drafts in recent memory, and the fact that six teams entered the evening without a first-round pick tells you how they mostly felt about it.

Speaking of those mock drafts, players like Caleb Banks and Jadarian Price, who have been mocked to Denver ended up going in the first round.

Banks was always considered a round one talent, but questions surrounding two foot injuries in the past year raised questions. Those questions cleared up this week after his medical check came back with good results, indicating he’d be ready for football activities in June.

He landed in Minnesota. Price, who was a prospect many felt would go in the second round, ended up going to the Seattle Seahawks with the final pick of the first round.

Some of the best players available at some of Denver’s biggest positions of need include linebacker CJ Allen, Jake Golday, and Jacob Rodriguez. At tight end, Max Klare and Eli Stowers are still available. Oregon offensive guard Emmanuel Pregnon is available.

At safety, Toledo’s Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is an option who is still on the board, alongside Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy.

How the AFC West drafted on Day 1

As expected, the Las Vegas Raiders selected Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza with the first overall selection. He’ll either play right away or sit behind Kirk Cousins this season.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded up three spots and gave up some backend capital that could have been valuable to take LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane, who would have been available at ninth overall. They also took Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods with the 29th overall pick to add to the defensive line as Chris Jones gets older and more expensive with a $44M cap hit this year, $38.1M cap hit next year, and a $44M cap hit in the final year of his deal.

The Los Angeles Chargers added an edge rusher, Akheem Mesidor, out of Miami. Obviously, with Khalil Mack getting older and nearing the potential end of his career in the next year or so, they’re trying to get ahead of it. Losing DC Jesse Minter this offseason was their biggest loss and will be one of the hardest things to replace.

Not getting help for Justin Herbert is an interesting choice considering he was bruised, bloodied, and battered last season, and Rashawn Slater is coming off a complex knee injury, and Joe Alt is coming off a pretty extensive ankle procedure.
