Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson picked 8th by New Orleans Saints

Arizona State star wide receiver Jordyn Tyson was selected 8th by the New Orleans Saints in the 2026 NFL Draft, landing with Chandler-native Tyler Shough as his signal-caller.

Tyson becomes the highest ASU player drafted since defensive back Mike Haynes in 1976 (No. 5), and the first top 10 pick since Terrell Suggs in 2003 (No. 10).

The former Sun Devil will join an offense that already includes receiver Chris Olave and running backs Travis Etienne Jr. and Alvin Kamara.

He becomes the third Sun Devils receiver picked in the first round over the last eight drafts and is the highest pick among them, joining N’Keal Harry (32nd to New England Patriots in 2019) and Brandon Aiyuk (25th to San Francisco 49ers in 2020). He is the program’s first Day 1 choice at any position since Aiyuk.

A hamstring injury kept Tyson out of most pre-draft workouts, including the NFL Draft Combine and ASU’s pro day on March 27.

He instead worked out privately for teams on Friday in Tempe, where he reportedly showed good health with just one drop across around 20-25 routes.

Jordyn Tyson’s road to 2026 NFL Draft

Tyson transferred to ASU after spending one year at Colorado and developed into a premier NFL prospect under wide receivers coach Hines Ward.

The tutelage led to Tyson becoming an elite downfield blocker, cutting his drops down from seven in 2024 to one in 2025 and posting a record-tying 26 bench press reps at the NFL Draft Combine.

He had 711 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns in 2025 (nine games) after posting 1,101 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024 (12 games). His final eight games in 2024 saw him lead the country in receiving yards (889) and touchdowns (nine).

Tyson’s injury history brought his draft stock into question, from knee issues while at Colorado that bled into his first season at ASU to collarbone and hamstring issues that prematurely ended his 2024 and 2025 campaigns, respectively.

However, he showed in a comeback win over Texas Tech that his toughness isn’t an issue, as he injured his hamstring and notably had four catches for 55 yards, including a 33-yard pickup on fourth down, on the final drive while playing through it.
