Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has withdrawn his legal petition filed before the Colombo District Court against Sri Lanka Cricket. According to a NewsWire report, President’s Counsel G.G. Arulpragasam represented Nuwan Thushara during a hearing at the Colombo District Court on Wednesday. He told the judge that several IPL matches had already been completed, which led the fast bowler to withdraw his legal request.
Arulpragasam explained that continuing the case was no longer necessary, as Thushara no longer wished to pursue the application for a No Objection Certificate. The court allowed Thushara to withdraw the case. The Colombo District Court then dismissed the petition related to the NOC.
“When the case was taken up on Wednesday, counsel for the petitioner told court that several IPL matches had already been concluded and the petitioner no longer wished to proceed with the application. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signing Matheesha Pathirana and spinner Wanindu Hasaranga could not travel for the IPL. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad players Eshan Malinga and Kamindu Mendis were cleared and joined the franchise for the season.

Before withdrawing his case, Thushara named Sri Lanka Cricket president Shammi Silva, secretary Bandula Dissanayake, treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyadda, and CEO Ashley de Silva as respondents. He wanted the Colombo District Court to confirm his right to receive a NOC for the IPL.
Without the NOC, his deal with Royal Challengers Bengaluru could not go through. His central contract with Sri Lanka Cricket also ended on March 31, and he reportedly chose not to renew it, informing the board about his plan to step away from international cricket.
Thushara had earlier played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, taking eight wickets in seven matches. Missing the current season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru means he will lose his ₹1.60 crore contract after this dispute.
