No. 1 UNC beat rival Duke for the second time in less than a week Wednesday at the ACC Tournament quarterfinals in Charlotte, dispatching the Blue Devils 15-11 to advance to Friday’s semifinal round.

Carolina trailed after Duke opened the scoring at the 7:23 mark of the first quarter, but turned the score around into a 4-1 lead by the quarter’s end thanks to goals from Darcy Felter, Kaleigh Harden and Chloe Humphrey. The Tar Heels wouldn’t trail for the rest of the day, eventually leading by as many as eight goals at 14-6 early in the fourth quarter. Duke scored five goals in the game’s final 9:56, but never seriously threatened the UNC advantage.
Humphrey and Felter carried the load offensively for Carolina, combining for nine of the team’s 14 goals. For Humphrey, it was her seventh consecutive game with at least four goals scored. She now has 83 in 15 games this season, putting her on track to surpass her total of 90 in 22 games in 2025.
Wednesday’s win improves UNC to 14-1 overall this season. The Tar Heels are the top seed in the ACC Tournament field and will face either No. 4 seed Syracuse or No. 5 seed Virginia in the semifinals Friday at 5 p.m. The Cavaliers and Orange will face off Wednesday at 2 p.m. Carolina is seeking its second consecutive ACC Tournament title and ninth overall.
