ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Crews and volunteers will take part in trash cleanup events around the Rochester area on Wednesday in honor of Earth Day. Here’s what to know and which ones volunteers can participate in.

Inner Loop “Trash Blitz”

Part of the Inner Loop will be closed to traffic on Wednesday while crews from the state’s Department of Transportation and the City of Rochester pick up trash.

    The Inner Loop will be closed in both directions until 2:30 p.m. between St. Paul and East Main streets. The DOT says the cleanup event aims to beautify the city and to remove threats to road safety and to the surrounding habitats.

    University of Rochester cleanup

    The University of Rochester is holding a cleanup event along the Genesee River on Wednesday for students, staff, faculty, and alumni. It’s part of the university’s Earth Week celebration.

    Trash pickers, gloves, and bags will be available. The cleanup will happen in two parts. The first starts at noon, and volunteers will meet at the information booth on Wilson Boulevard.
