Pakistan urged the United States and Iran, on Tuesdsay, to considerextending their ceasefire, as the two-week truce is set to expire on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Pakistani foreign ministry said Pakistan’sDeputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar discussed “recentregional developments” with US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker in Islamabad,adding that he stressed consistent emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy “as theonly viable means to address challenges and achieve lasting regional peace andstability.”
He also highlighted “the need for engagement between theUnited States and Iran,” calling both sides to “give dialogue and diplomacy achance.”For her part, Baker conveyed Washington’s “appreciation for Pakistan’sconstructive and positive role in promoting regional peace and facilitatingdialogue.”
