ROCHESTER, N.Y. — With the arrival of spring comes the return of construction projects. Here’s your guide to some upcoming road or bridge projects that are expected to interrupt traffic.
Kreag Road in Perinton
Kreag Road under I-490 in Perinton will be closed on overnights from Wednesday, April 22, through Friday, April 24, for an ongoing bridge repair project.
The closures will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 7 a.m. each day. The state’s Department of Transportation says drivers should find a different route, such as using Sully’s Trail and Garnsey Road. The project may impact walkers and bicyclists who use the sidewalk.
The DOT says the construction is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change based on the conditions. The construction is part of a $60.8 million project to replace the bridges carrying I-490 over the Erie Canal and Kreag Road in Perinton. The bridges were built in the 1950s.
Route 31A in Sweden
Part of Route 31A in Sweden will close starting on Monday, April 27, for a culvert replacement project. The road will be closed from West Sweden Road to County Line Road for about four weeks. The Brockport Fire District posted a reminder on Facebook and is asking drivers to find different routes.
I-590 in Brighton
The Department of Transportation’s $51.5 million project to repair or replace bridges on I-590 in Brighton is now underway. You can see our reporting on the project here.
It’s expected to last through December of 2028, with crews replacing bridges over Monroe Avenue built in the mid-1960s. The project also aims to provide access to the Rochester airport and the State Thruway.
During construction, one of the three lanes of I-590 will be closed in both directions. In addition, both the 590 South entrance ramp from Monroe Avenue and the 590 South exit ramp to Monroe Avenue will be closed.
There may also be temporary road and shoulder closures along Monroe Avenue, Allens Creek Road, and some ramps during the project. The DOT will keep drivers updated on closures with signs.
