BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres are leading their NHL playoff series against the Boston Bruins 1-0 after winning their first postseason game in 15 years.
Sabres players said Sunday night’s win at the KeyBank Center was an emotional moment. After trailing 2-0 in the third period, the Sabres scored four unanswered goals. The final score was 4-3. Defender Mattias Samuelsson, whose goal gave the Sabres the first lead of the night, spoke about support from the fans.

“Opening puck drop, I had chills. I was worried I was going to fall over,” he said. “I was so anxious with all the energy. I said at the end of the game, that might have been the coolest moment of my life. Just so loud, I couldn’t even hear myself think. Fans are unbelievable.”
Sabres center Tage Thompson, who scored two goals during the game, said the fans have helped to feed their energy all season.
“It’s been so much fun to play in front of them and be able to string some winning games for them and find ourselves in the playoffs,” he said. “Didn’t know what the next level for the fan base could get to, and that was pretty exciting to see coming off the warm-ups, and it was already almost full. Just a ton of energy and tonight’s game was just full of emotion, I think for everyone,” he said.
