A 65-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run while crossing the street in Chicago’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood, according to the Chicago Police Department, with officials still searching for the driver.
About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the woman was crossing the street in a crosswalk in the 3100 block of North Central Avenue when a red pickup truck traveling southbound struck her.
The truck fled the scene and continued southbound on Central Avenue, police said.
According to officials, the Chicago Fire Department attempted to perform life-saving measures on the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck was later recovered unoccupied, police said.
Photos and video form the scene showed yellow police tape surrounding the intersection at Central and Belmont, with multiple members of the CPD on scene.
No other injuries were reported, and an investigation remains underway.
