Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

SwimSwam’s #18 ranked recruit in the high school class of 2027, Colin Jacobs, has announced that he’ll be representing Cal Berkeley in the NCAA starting next fall. The distance specialist, who posted his commitment on April 11, is the third-to-last ranked swimmer to commit. Jacobs competed with the Sarasota Sharks for a good chunk of his career, but changed his training base in 2024 to swim with CN d’Antibes under coach Fred Vergnoux — which is notably where Summer McIntosh trained leading up to the 2025 World Championships.

Although he’s now 17, Jacobs left his mark on the 15-16 rankings: at the Pro Swim Series last August, he posted the 4th fastest performance of the age group in the both the 800 (7:55.50) and 1500 frees (15:06.04). He also swam a 3:52.12 in the 400 free, a time that ranks as the 9th fastest in the 15-16 age group.

The Florida native has no shortage of accolades, as he is a multi-time Winter Jr National Champion thanks to his victories in the 1000 free (8:48.22) and 1650 free (14:47.47) in December 2025. Jacobs went on to take 13th in the 400 IM (3:52.26) and silver in the 500 free (4:17.51), finishing only behind future Cal teammate Baylor Stanton, a class of 2026 commit. All of his swims were personal bests by sizable margins, as his times heading into the meet, set at the 2024 Winter Jr Championships, were 4:22.39/9:07.94/15:01.34 across the 500/1000/1650.

While Jacobs hasn’t competed in the pool this year, he has swam open water and seen monumental success at the junior level; earlier this month, he took bronze at the 2026 Open Water National Championships to become the junior champion of the race. He, along with Texas’ Aiden Hammer, earned an official invite to the 2026 World Aquatics Junior Open Water Swimming Championships in Argentina. Jacobs’ other results from that meet include 6th in the 5k and 2nd in the 3k knockout race.

Cal defended their ACC Championship in February before finishing in 7th at NCAAs last month. Berkeley is the current training base of 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist and distance specialist Daniel Wiffen, although following a rocky performance at the Irish National Championships this week, there’s no guarantee he’ll be staying. While Daniel didn’t swim in the NCAA, his twin brother, Nathan, did. At NCAAs, he finished 18th in the 500 free (4:13.80) and 15th in the 1650 free (14:46.81). Those times were 1.23 seconds and 12.64 seconds off his season bests, respectively, and scored him just two points for Cal.

The Bears are also home to fellow Florida native Ryan Erisman, another distance specialist who had a strong freshman year and scored the 2nd most points for Cal at NCAAs. Jacobs would’ve ranked 3rd on Cal’s roster in both the 1000 and 1650 free, behind Erisman and Wiffen. However, Wiffen had just one year of eligibility and will not be returning in the fall. While Cal will welcome an exceptionally strong class this fall, none are distance specialists of the same caliber as Jacobs, making him an integral addition to their distance group.

Jacobs’ best time in the 1650 would’ve finished 5th at ACCs and scored at NCAAs this year (tying Yale’s Noah Millard for 16th). Meanwhile, his 500 free PB would’ve qualified for the B-final at conferences.

#5 Davis Jackson, Thi Rai, and Lithuanian diver Martynas Lisauskas will join Jacobs in Cal’s class of 2031. Although it’s small, this is a strong all-around class for the Bears: Jackson boasts times of 45.9/1:39.2 in the backstrokes and Rai is a 53.4/1:55.3 breastroker. Rai, who swims for Bolles, also hails from Florida.
