It’s a lighter week for local government, but there are still a number of high-profile items on the agendas – starting in Orange County, where county commissioners will meet Tuesday to consider a one-year moratorium on approving any new AI data centers. Also this week, the Orange County Board of Education will hear from the public and potentially vote to approve a budget plan for the upcoming school year. But the busiest agenda this week is in Pittsboro, where Chatham County Commissioners have three major topics to consider: the use of Flock license-plate cameras, which have drawn heavy criticism; a major housing proposal in northern Chatham County that’s slated to add over a thousand new residents; and the future of county-owned properties in downtown Pittsboro, which are available for redevelopment as county offices move to new locations – once the county decides what the best use of those properties should be.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
