The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mansour Abdel-Ghani, said on Sunday that electricity conservation measures have resulted in significant energy savings, with approximately 18,000 megawatt-hours saved in just one week.
During a phone interview with Ahmed Moussa’s TV show “Ala Massoulity” (On My Responsibility), he explained that implementing a remote work system on Sundays in government offices also contributed to reducing the load on the grid, achieving additional savings exceeding 4,000 megawatts.
This comes as part of the state’s efforts to improve energy efficiency, he said.
The electricity sector is undergoing a significant development for the first time, he explained, having begun integrating energy storage batteries into the national grid in order to enhance stability and improve operational efficiency.
He added that the grid was bolstered during 2026 with the addition of up to 3,000 megawatts per hour of capacity, as part of early preparations for the summer season and the anticipated increase in demand.
Abdel-Ghani reassured citizens that there is full readiness to meet electricity needs and ensure service stability, without being affected by increased consumption.
