ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Eastman School of Music presented Rochester Broadcast at Parcel Five earlier on Saturday.
The outdoor performance featured more than 270 musicians and music lovers from different backgrounds. The composer said the broadcast performance was meant to have groups of musicians perform in the center of the area and broadcast away from the center.
“Audience members get to be their own mixing engineers here, you know, they get to decide where they want to hear the piece. You know. They can get closer to this group, that group, and they can, you know, that way sort of possible to get right up to a mandolin orchestra, and hear them just fine while there’s a huge brass band in the distance, you know, accompanying them. So, you can balance it out however you want to,” said Lisa Bielawa, composer.
The composer said she had done this project in other cities like Berlin, San Francisco, and Knoxville.
