NEWARK, N.Y. — A parolee is in jail after a traffic stop led to a chase and standoff overnight on Friday.
Newark police officers tried to stop a car for traffic violations, but the car took off instead. The police chief says the chase was brief and the car crashed soon after. Three people then ran from the car, with one suspect going to a home on Hoffman Street.
During the investigation, police arrested James E. Wright of Lyons, 30. He was charged with burglary in the second degree, petit larceny, two counts of aggravated unlicensed operator charges, among other charges.
Police say Wright was released from prison back on April 9, after previously being convicted of attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
He was taken to the Wayne County Jail.
Wayne County deputies and state troopers helped the investigation. The chief says the two other suspects have been identified.
