ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Very dynamic weather over the next three days will allow us to experience all four seasons in rapid succession… This morning will feel like spring, this afternoon summer, tomorrow feels like fall, and then winter makes a brief return on Monday.
Let’s talk about today first: It’s our fourth Yellow Alert Day of the week as we anticipate the return of storms late this afternoon through the evening. Before then however, it will feel like Spring in the morning as temps rise through the 50s and 60s, then a decent southerly breeze will pull in plenty of warmth with highs in the low to high 70s, making it feel like Summer. Humidity also won’t be bad today ahead of the storms. Clouds will be on the increase, which will help to limit instability for storms to feed off of, but the chance for severe weather is still there, especially for areas south and west of Rochester. The main threat is strong winds, with flash flooding and an isolated tornado also not out of the question. Timing for rain and storms will be from 5/6pm to 8/9pm.
Behind the cold front responsible for the storms, expect, well, much colder air. We go from near 80 to the 40s in less than 12 hours, and tomorrow we won’t escape the 40s. It will still be breezy, this time out of the northwest, and we actually will see some mixed precipitation pass through alongside mostly cloudy skies. That’s our Fall day!
On Monday Winter returns. We wake up to near freezing or even below freezing temperatures, and believe it or not, we have a good chance for some passing flurries. It certainly wouldn’t be the latest snow we’ve ever seen, but nonetheless a very rude awakening to start the workweek. Nothing will accumulate however, so you can leave the snow shovel in the shed.
Then some good news: The rest of the workweek we return to more seasonable temperatures with plenty of sunshine expected!
