Law & Order SVU has been renewed for another run, NBC has confirmed.
The crime drama television series, which has been the longest-running primetime drama on American television since season 21 back in 2019, will return next fall for its 28th season.
However, as reported by Deadline, there's a twist: season 28 is actually the second part of a two-season renewal from May 2025, which NBC hadn’t made public.
The renewal news comes hot on the heels of another Law & Order series, Organised Crime, being axed after five seasons on NBC and Peacock.
Meanwhile, the future remains unclear for the mothership Law & Order show, which is currently in its 25th season.
While we’ll have to wait for official cast confirmations for Law & Order SVU, we’d expect the likes of Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, Aimé Donna Kelly, and Kevin Kane to return to the fore.
Cast member Ice-T previously alluded to another run, saying in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter): "I’m on the last three episodes of the season [27], which means going into season 28, Fin will still be alive and breathing."
Law & Order SVU is currently airing its 27th season on NBC, with the finale set to air on Thursday, 14 May, 2026, at 9pm ET.
