*Warning: This article contains full spoilers for the final fifth episode of Missed Call, which is available to stream on 5 now*
With Sarah (Joanna Scanlan) getting closer to the truth of what's happened to her daughter Katie (Emily Coates), things were left on quite the dramatic cliffhanger going into the final episode of Missed Call.
When a body is found in the woods, Sarah assumes the worst but we quickly find out that the discovery actually has links to a historic case in Saint Michel. So how does Katie slot into things?
The final fifth episode, which is now available to stream on 5, may not end on the note that many think, according to Scanlan.
Chatting to Radio Times about the finale, she teased: "I mean, I won't even say it ends well. It's not a guarantee that we're going to run through this and have the answer we want at the end of it."
But what happens in the final episode of Missed Call? Read on for a full breakdown.
Missed Call ending explained: Does Sarah find Katie?
Going into the finale was the cliffhanger question of whether the body found in the woods was Katie. It turns out that it wasn't Katie but was Odile, the girl who went missing five years prior in Saint Michel.
But who killed Odile? Well, it turns out that it was local detective Jerome Ricard (François-Xavier Demaison) who accidentally hit Odile with his car while under the influence one night. With the accident killing Odile instantly, Jerome covered it up and lied for years, leading to her case never being solved.
Once his old police partner Serge (Xavier Lemaître) found out the truth, though, Jerome once again took matters into his own hands and killed Serge, staging it to look like a suicide and also planting evidence to make it appear as though it was him who killed Odile.
Confronted by Virginie (Claire Keim), Jerome then threatened her over her father Andrew's (Robert Lindsay) past. He had obviously moved to France from the UK but it turned out that he did so after a string of sexual assault allegations were made against him in the '80s, with Jerome now having those files to hand.
But Virginie didn't feel threatened by her father's true self being revealed and simply didn't care if Jerome exposed the truth. Jerome eventually threw the files away with Virginie arresting him afterwards – an awkward dynamic given the pair were dating.
Odile's mother Audrey Lambert (Lise Laffont) had been searching for the truth about her daughter for years and was obviously heartbroken to learn of Odile's death, with Sarah and Virginie later informing her that Jerome had been arrested for her murder.
The surprises didn't end there though as it turned out that Audrey had actually kidnapped Katie and been harbouring her in her own home, with Katie finally being reunited with Sarah at long last.
Katie had been stumbling out onto the main road by herself when Audrey had picked her up, recognising her from the local school. Clearly intoxicated, Katie mistook Audrey for her own mother and Audrey explained that she took that as a sign.
Audrey thought that by concealing the whereabouts of Katie, it would lead to people making connections between Katie's case and Odile's, hopefully leading to justice being served for Odile. It turned out that Audrey was the one to leave certain details and evidence around (including the graffiti about the Morvans) so that Sarah and Virginie could make the links between the cases.
Audrey had always suspected that the Morvans had something to do with the kidnapping of Odile and so her evidence planting was all about unmasking them – even though they weren't involved. Audrey explained her plan to Katie, who didn't fight back or try to escape because she understood Audrey's plight.

Sarah knew there were things her daughter had kept from her and Katie revealed that in one spur of the moment in the past, she tried to kiss Jason (Rupert Graves).
It was then that Sarah revealed to Katie that Jason was actually dead, having been shot by Xavier (Maxime Pipet) when they got into a physical altercation.
It turned out that Jason wasn't the knight in shining armour that Sarah had thought, having concealed an entire secret life complete with wife, children and multiple affairs.
With her daughter by her side, Sarah thanked Virginie for all her help and friendship throughout the entire time she'd been in Saint Michel. But Virginie threw one more small spanner in the works and told Sarah that they got Jason's phone records back, asking Sarah whether she'd like to see them.
Sarah confidently said no and instead, enquired about what will happen to Audrey. Getting into a taxi to the airport, Sarah bid farewell to Virginie and with Katie now by her side, they drove off happily.
Missed Call continues to air on 5 nightly until Friday 17 April at 9pm, with episodes also now available to stream in full.
